Laura Bowery
Owner, Trainer, & Rider
Laura’s journey to becoming one of the top riders and trainers in the country began in her early childhood in Huntington, New York. Growing up, she and her sister Jenn were introduced to horses by their father, a true animal lover. After her father's passing when she was eight years old, Laura's mother, a flight attendant, continued to support her children’s passion for horses. Despite tight finances, Laura worked hard, mucking stalls to afford riding lessons under the tutelage of Virginia Rice at Rice Farms.

Although she competed in hunters and equitation as a young rider, Laura knew that the jumpers were her true calling. Once she turned 18, Laura spent a year working for Grand Prix rider Margie Goldstein-Engle, gaining invaluable experience riding top-tier horses. This opportunity solidified her ambition and honed her riding skills.

Returning to Long Island, Laura teamed up with Patrick Rice, a collaboration that would last nearly a decade. Together, they trained some of Long Island’s best riders and horses under the Haverhill banner, before moving their operation east to Bridgehampton. There, she began working with the Di Menna's, a family that played a pivotal role in her career. Through their support, Laura was able to reach the next level, competing in major shows like the Olympic trials.

In 1990, Laura founded Sea-Aire, Inc. Since then, Laura has proven herself to be a fierce competitor. She earned Team Gold at the Nations Cup in Budapest, Hungary, and won the Pan American Trials in Lexington, Kentucky. She has won numerous Grand Prix events and is a regular competitor at prestigious shows across the country. Her daughter, Ella, has followed in her footsteps, showing across the country and continuing the family tradition of equestrian excellence.

But Laura's journey hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2022, a spinal tumor threatened to end her career. After an accident that resulted in a broken tailbone, Laura underwent surgery at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell. Despite this setback, Laura’s indomitable spirit kept her going, and she made an incredible recovery. She not only continued to compete at the highest levels, but won a Grand Prix that summer.

This past November, Laura underwent spinal fusion surgery to complete her recovery. Today, she’s back to riding and is preparing for her show ring debut this spring.
